Every story has an inspiration, and “Grampy, The Rhino and The Soda” is no exception. Todd Cardin was inspired by the joy and silliness that grandchildren bring into life. As a storyteller, Todd has always loved making up goofy tales to make kids laugh. One day, on a Safari Ride in Animal Kingdom, Todd teased his grandchildren that he was going to share his soda with a Rhino. The kids laughed and constantly brought it up again. Todd imagined a rhinoceros curiously eyeing his fizzy drink – and that whimsical “what if?” moment grew into this very book! Beyond the giggles, Todd wrote this story to celebrate the special bond between grandparents and children. Kids are used to having rules with their parents, but Grampy represents the kind of grandparent who’s a little more flexible — the one who might break the rules, sneak a treat, or turn an ordinary day into an unexpected adventure. The characters and their adventure highlight how sharing simple moments can create lasting memories.
